Urban Charm & Industrial Soul: Shooting at Highline Car House
Every wedding is a unique story, and as a photographer, I’m always looking for a backdrop that feels as real as the couples I’m shooting. The Highline Car House in Columbus is exactly that. Tucked away in the historic Brewery District, it hits that perfect sweet spot between industrial grit and timeless elegance.
Why I Love the Space
The history here is tangible. You can still feel the early 20th-century roots of the building—back when it housed the city’s streetcars—but the restoration is stunning. Between the exposed brick, those massive lofty ceilings, and the original hardwood floors, it has a "vintage-meets-modern" vibe that just works.
But for me, the real hero of this venue is the light. Those oversized windows flood the room with a soft, natural glow that makes my job easy, especially during the ceremony and those quiet, in-between moments.
The Light and the Vibe
Shooting at Highline is all about playing with light and shadow. The industrial-chic aesthetic allows for some really dramatic, editorial-style shots. Whether it’s the crisp morning light as you’re getting ready or that warm, golden hour glow hitting the brick during dinner, there isn’t a bad angle in the house.
Creative Perspectives
I love finding the hidden gems in this venue. There’s something so cool about framing a bridal party against the iconic brick walls or catching a candid moment of a couple stealing a breath away from the reception. It’s a space that encourages you to step away from "traditional" shots and lean into something more artistic and authentic.
Capturing the Connection
At the end of the day, my goal is to capture the feelings, not just the poses. Highline Car House has an intimate, warm energy that makes people feel at home. From the belly laughs during toasts to that high-energy first dance, the atmosphere here helps those real emotions come to the surface.
I’m always honored to spend a wedding day here. It’s more than just a beautiful building; it’s a canvas for the kind of memories that still look good fifty years from now. If you're looking for a venue that feels like "Old Columbus" but with a modern, romantic edge, Highline is hard to beat.
